SOCIAL PERSONAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION (SPHE)

The SPHE programme in Coláiste na Ríochta builds on the experience of all children at Primary level and reflects the unique ethos of our school. We aim to cultivate a respect for all learners and develop in students the necessary skills to become responsible citizens. Topics addressed include Belonging and Integrating, Bullying Prevention, Mental, Emotional and Physical Health, Relationships and Sexuality (RSE), Alcohol and Drugs and Personal Safety.

Students learn how to communicate effectively and resolve conflict constructively and create and maintain supportive relationships. This is achieved through student participation in team-building and reflective exercises. These include helping to organise events such as 'Friendship Week' and other activities promoting mental and physical health.
